Course Description

Workshop: Understanding What Matters to Older People

CQC requires care homes to demonstrate that they are using the most up to date evidence to support their practice.  This one-day, online workshop helps care home teams to reflect on learning from one of the largest qualitative, national research studies of the views of older people living in care homes, encouraging them to consider how the lessons from this research are relevant to their own practice and their service.

The workshop will be participatory in nature, enabling participants to consider the 6 ‘thriving’ themes that have emerged from the data, and how they align to CQC’s single assessment framework.

The facilitator will invite participants to reflect on how their own service supports residents to thrive, actively encouraging them to take back ideas for hearing from their own residents, as well as practical tips for improving their practice.

The programme works with up to 10 participants.

Who is this workshop for?

For deputies, team leaders and senior carers working in care homes.

Learning

The outcomes we aim for by the end of the workshop are:

-Improved knowledge relating to what matters to older people living in care homes

-Improved reflection on what matters to users of their own service

-Practical tips and ideas for making improvements to practice or the service as a whole.

There will be an evaluation at the end of the course. The workshop will cover:

-What national research tells us about what matters to older people in care home

-Open dialogue about what works well in relation to the key ‘thriving’ themes emerging from the research

-Exploration of how the lessons learned from this research can support participants own practice.
