Course Description

CQC requires care homes to demonstrate that they are using the most up-to-date evidence to support their practice. The ‘Thriving in Residential Care’ research from My Home Life England is the UK’s largest qualitative research study of the experiences of older people living in care homes. This 2-hour online workshop will be participatory in nature. It will support care leaders to reflect upon the 6 ‘Thriving’ themes that have emerged from the data and consider how these can be applied in their own care service, to deliver quality and make a real difference to people’s lives. Leaders will come away with tools and tips for improving practice that aligns with CQC’s single assessment framework.

For managers, deputies, team leaders and senior carers working in residential/nursing care homes.

The workshop will cover:

-What the national research tells us about what matters to older people living in care homes.
-Open dialogue about what works well in relation to the 6 key ‘Thriving’ themes emerging from the research.
-Exploration of how the lessons learned from this research can support participants’ own practice in their care setting.

The outcomes we aim for by the end of the workshop are:

-Improved knowledge of what matters to older people living in care homes, and how they can be supported to thrive.
-Improved reflection on what matters to users of their own care service, and reflection on how their quality of life could be enhanced.
-Practical tips and ideas for making improvements to practice and/or to the care service as a whole.
-Improved ability to evidence quality and person-centered care in CQC inspections.

There will be an evaluation at the end of the course.
